- Dedicated bike lane striping
- Solid and dashed bike lane lines, buffers, and lane separation markings, laid out to the MUTCD.
- Green conflict zone surfaces
- Green MMA at driveways, intersections, and merge zones where cars cross the bike lane.
- Colored MMA pavement markings
- MMA is sprayed cold and holds its color. Anti-skid aggregate gives it traction in wet weather.
- Shared lane markings
- Sharrows where cyclists and cars share the lane, plus shared-use path markings.
- Thermoplastic lane lines
- Hot-applied thermoplastic for bike lane lines, at 125 mils. It lasts 5 to 6 times as long as traffic paint.
- Bike boxes and crossings
- Bike boxes at signalized intersections, ladder crosswalk approaches, and pedestrian conflict zones.
Green-colored pavement shows drivers where a bike lane crosses a turn lane or runs beside a bus bay. It is a standard MUTCD device under Section 3H.06 of the 11th Edition, which Florida adopts by Rule 14-15.010, F.A.C.
Anti-skid aggregate is broadcast into the wet MMA during application, which adds wet-weather traction. FDOT qualifies green bike lane products at a DFT40 friction value of 50 or more when new and 40 or more in service (Section 974-4).
Green MMA bike lane surfacing typically opens to traffic in about 20 to 60 minutes, depending on the product, pavement temperature and catalyst dose. Spray MMA line markings are rated no-track in 30 minutes or less. Warm pavement cures faster and cool pavement slower, so crews adjust the catalyst dose.
MMA has been shown to provide a much longer service life than standard traffic paint, and a service life of more than three years is common. FHWA considers MMA as durable as thermoplastic and tape markings. Actual life depends on traffic, surface, and application.
